Located on the Alaskan island of Unimak, Mount Shishaldin is the highest mountain in the Aleutian Islands. The snow clad mountain was formed 10,000 years ago after a volcanic eruption. It is conical in shape, which is more symmetric than Mount Fuji of Japan.

Fred Perry won the men’s singles title at Wimbledon in 1936, exactly 77 years before Andy Murray became the champion in 2013. He was being projected as the last Briton to win a singles title at Wimbledon before Andy Murray. But the person to get the credit is Virginia Wade, who won the women’s singles title in 1977. There should not be any gender bias.

Nelson Mandela celebrated his 80th birthday on 18 July 1998 by marrying Graça Machel, widow of Samora Machel, the first President of Mozambique. His first wife was Evelyn Ntoko Mase and his second wife was Winnie Madikizela.

The researchers at the California Institute of Technology say that an ancient delta was found on Mars. Using high-resolution images of a spanning 100 square kilometre area from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), the researchers discovered the fan-shaped inverted channels that appeared to be emptying into an ancient ocean. The inverted channels appeared as ridges that were made from sediments of coarse material. Slope measurements indicated that the water was spreading out instead of converging. This suggested that these water channels were part of a delta. The researchers also found an abrupt increase in slope downstream suggesting that waters must have emptied into a larger body of water. Since there is no crater nearby, it was suggested that this large body could have been an ocean.

Ludwig Eduard Boltzmann was an Austrian physicist and philosopher whose greatest achievement was the development of statistical thermodynamics. The formula S=klnΩ engraved on his memorial tombstone connects entropy with the natural logarithm of thermodynamic probability. The proportionality constant k is called the Boltzmann’s constant. He committed suicide on 5 September 1906.

The Pan American Games (also known colloquially as the Pan Am Games) constitute a major event in the Americas featuring summer and formerly winter sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. It is held at a gap of every four years in the year before the summer Olympic Games. There has so far been only one edition of the Winter Pan American Games in 1990. The first Pan American Games were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 25 February 1951.
