M. S. Dhoni’s unmatched record

When M. S. Dhoni scored a very aggressive knock of 224 against Australia in Chennai (2013), he became the only wicketkeeper batsman of India who has kept wickets for India in T20s, ODIs and test matches and has scored a test double century. Budhi Kunderan came very close when he scored 192 against England (1963–64) in Madras now Chennai. Rahul Dravid has scored four test double centuries, but he had been an occasional wicket keeper for India in test matches.

A marathon career begun at 89!

Fauja Singh began running in marathon events when he was 89 years of age. He started it for the cause of saving premature babies. He ran in 9 marathon events each of 48.84 km (26 miles). He retired on 24 February 2013. He was born on April 1, 1911.

Stay away from the Capes!

The sea is rough in Cape Horn at the southern tip of South America and the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa. This is probably because of the difference in the depth of waters. The waters near the shores are a few hundred metres deep while the waters in the sea a few kilometres away are thousands of metres deep. The underwater waves which pass by the shelf hit the shelf and rise up with great force causing rough seas.

What makes Dolly the sheep special?

Dolly the sheep was the first cloned sheep. It was cloned by Ian Wilmut, Keith Campbell and colleagues at the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh in Scotland. An adult cell from the mammary gland of a sheep was used to clone Dolly.

Land of flamingoes

In one particular island named Sindal Bet in the Rann of Kutch of Gujarat, the flamingoes arrive to nest and breed. Owing to its special ecological features, it is one of the largest breeding ground for flamingoes in India.

Florence Nightingale’s friend – Athena

Florence Nightingale is renowned for introducing nursing. She was a health reformer. Her studies showed that the vast majority of British soldiers in the Crimean War died due to disease and poor hygiene, not enemy bullets. She once rescued a baby owl and named it Athena. She used to carry it in her pocket wherever she went.
