The red dirt in Central Australia closely resembles the red surface of Mars, which also explains the abundant formation of gem-quality opal in the red dirt of the Great Artesian Basin in Central Australia. It is referred to as ‘Mars on Earth’.

Tagore’s pseudonym and his writings

All his songs written in Brajabuli, the language of Brajobhumi, like Sawano Gagane Ghor Ghanoghata, Gahana Kusuma Kunja Majhe were all written under the pseudonym Bhanusingho. These have been compiled under the title Bhanusingho Thakurer Padabali, that is, the ‘Songs of Bhanusingho Thakur’. It is a collection of Vaishnava lyrics composed by Rabindranath Tagore.

Rowling’s ploy-ful pseudonym

J. K. Rowling, the British novelist, is an iconic writer, best known as the author of the Harry Potter fantasy series. Incidentally, her actual name is Joanne ‘Jo’ Rowling, J. K. Rowling being her pen name. She has written a crime novel called The Cuckoo’s Calling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Snoopy of ‘Peanuts’ comic – The official mascot of aerospace safety

Peanuts is a popular comics strip created by Charles M. Schulz. One of the main characters, Snoopy, a beagle, is the official mascot for the US  astronauts. On January 27, 1967, the launch test for the Apollo 1 mission went wrong when the crew cabin caught fire killing  all  three  astronauts  on board. The Apollo Program was rebuilt with vigour and Snoopy became the official mascot of aerospace safety due to his attitude of refusal to accept defeat and his ‘outside the doghouse’ way of looking at things.

Why do jellyfish go invisible when ashore?

Jellyfish are free-swimming invertebrate animals found in the oceans. They are one of the oldest animals on earth dating from more than 500 million years ago. Most jellyfish are transparent and umbrella shaped. They are made of 98 per cent water. If a jellyfish washes up to the shore, it immediately evaporates and becomes almost invisible.
