Sarojini Naidu had been the Governor of a state. She became the Governor of Uttar Pradesh after independence. Her daughter Padmaja Naidu became the Governor of the state of West Bengal.

Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was a doctor and a freedom fighter who went on to become the second chief minister of West Bengal in 1948 at Gandhiji’s behest. Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was a philanthropist and took major interest in the social, cultural and industrial development of West Bengal. He was awarded Bharat Ratna for his exemplary service in 1961. He died when he was exactly 80 years old, on the same day he was born, i.e. 1 July.

The song Vande-Mataram first appeared in Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s Anandamath. Tagore composed the tune of the song and sang at the 12th session of the Indian National Congress in 1896. In 1904, the first gramophone record of the song in Tagore’s voice came in the market.
