What is entomophagy?

The practice of people eating insects is called entomophagy. It has been practised for centuries throughout Africa, Australia, Asia, the Middle East, and North, Central and South America. This is because many bugs are both protein-rich and good sources of vitamins, minerals and fats.

Are all insects considered pests?

People tend to consider that all insects are pests. However, all insects are not pests. Insects such as honey bees collect nectar and produce honey. Spiders eat small flies and mosquitoes. Small wasps eat aphids, which feed on vegetables. Ground beetles eat smaller insects that feed on crops and vegetables.
